HEP-40 has an excellent safety profile.
HEP-40 is not absorbed through the digestive tract and so it does not end up in the blood stream. Its mechanism of action is purely physical. Consequently, there are no significant side effects associated with HEP-40.
A 12-week safety study on 80 healthy volunteers revealed that the principle side effects were a mild laxative effect, due to the fact that HEP-40 is an insoluble dietary fiber. HEP-40 was shown to have no effect on the absorption of lipid soluble vitamins such as Vitamin D, and no effect on the cardiovascular or neurological systems. A subsequent double blind, placebo controlled study involving over 200 patients confirmed HEP-40’s excellent safety and revealed a side effect profile comparable to placebo.
HEP-40 has been sold in Canada since 2004. There have been no adverse events reported and no drug interactions. HEP-40 has been approved by Health Canada and granted a Natural Product Number (NPN). Health Canada has approved the health claim “helps in the management of cholesterol,” based on HEP-40’s scientific evidence.
